Like someone who just escaped a lifetime jail sentence
Until now, locked up in a prison of my own making,
Suddenly finding a repreive and set free,
I am humbled by the fact so many others never make it,
Yet for some reason I was found worthy of this chance
To begin living life anew.
Recognizing this for the rare gift that it is
I’ll not squander it, but live in it fully
With a new sense of personal responsibility.
